Solar Eclipse

On Monday, April 8th, 2024, our region will experience a significant astronomical event: a solar eclipse. This phenomenon presents a unique educational opportunity for our students to learn more about space, science, and to witness a rare celestial occurrence.

In order to maximize this learning experience, we are implementing an early release of school for Middle School and High School students; that otherwise may not have an opportunity to experience the eclipse during their transport home after school.

Students will be released from Pierce Middle School at 2:45pm and from Thurston High school at 2:10pm on Monday, April 8, 2024. After-school activities, including clubs and sports practices, will run as scheduled. The District will provide students with NASA approved glasses so students can view the solar eclipse from their desired location. We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to discuss the solar eclipse with your child and engage in related educational activities.
